  • Creating shared experiences for large numbers of people, e.g. use of TV nationwide can spread a message across the whole of society.
  • The international nature of the modern mass media helps to bridge gaps between people regardless of physical distance – norms, values and behaviours can be disseminated globally
  • Social media’s ability to create cultural trends e.g. Live streaming on platforms such as Instagram; Facebook.

Advertising – messages more likely to be received by many when repeated
