Ownership of new forms of digital media has been concentrated in the hands of few major TNCs. The internet is dominated by a small number of co-operations E.g microsoft, Google. Whilst apple and samsung dominate the smartphone market.

Social media companies are like imperial powers colonising the minds of millions of people across the world so they behave and think in the same way. This reduces people’s opportunity to speak out and has muted less powerful groups so that that are less likely to challenge issues such as inequality or to speak out against injustice.
