Ralph and Jack talk about the
fire
Ralph says that they put green
branches on the fire
there might be a
ship
Jack is actually talking about ways to kill a
pig and Ralph becomes enraged
Ralph starts complaining about how he works with Simon only and how
Jack actually likes what he does.
Ralph mentions how, whenever he calls meetings, the boys agree to work, but then soon after they
neglect the work they just agreed to do
Simon→”He wanted to explain how people were never
what you thought they were.”
the little kids were basically
uninvolved with the older kids
Robert and Maurice go over to where little boys are
playing in the sand.
Maurice throws sand at Percival and then
runs away so he doesn’t get in trouble.
The little boy Henry is captivated by creatures in the sea, and Roger is about to
throw stones at him, intentionally missing because he doesn’t want to get in trouble
The boys are remembering the laws of
their old lives
jack uses clay to mask
his face so that he can finally kill a pig
the little boy with the mulberry-marked face was
never found
there was a ship that came and ralph ran to
see it but the fire was let out
jack returned with the hunters, they finally got a pig but Ralph was
indignant because Jack let the fire go out
chant for killing pig→
“kill the pig. Cut her throat. bash her in.”
After piggy yelled at jack for letting the fire out, jack
punched him and smacked his head, causing Piggy’s glasses to fly off
one side of piggy’s glasses are
broken
despite the boys’ excitement for having killed the pg, ralph was still
enraged and he stated that he would be calling a meeting
ralph realized that piggy, unlike essentially everyone else,
had the ability to think
ralph calls a meeting and affirms that the fire will
only be on the mountain
ralph also scolds the boys because they are not working
hard enough and aren’t keeping the island clean
percival claimed that the beast
lived in the water
simon took the conch and claimed that maybe there is a beast and that maybe the beast is
within them, the humans
simon gave up trying to express himself when
everyone laughed at him
jack threatened ralph’s authority by breaking the
rules and questioning the basis of ralph’s orders
ralph contemplates resigning from being chief, but piggy and simon
tell him not to
piggy suggests that jack hates ralph too because
jack isn’t chief
a figure came down on a
parachute
sam and eric were
keeping the fire going
the twins (sam and eric→Samneric) claimed they saw the
beast, so some of the boys went on an expedition to find it
they didn’t find a beast and ralph started yelling about
getting a signal again
ralph hit a boar with his spear and then the boys pretended
robert was a pig and pretended to kill him
ralph asked jack why he
hates him. jack didn’t respond
jack had gone up the mountain by himself and returned, claiming that he saw something
bulge. ralph suggested to go see what it is
jack calls a meeting and asks the boys to raise their hands if they don’t want
ralph to be chief, but no one raises their hands
jack runs away crying, claiming that he will not be
part of Ralph’s lot anymore
Piggy suggested that they move the fire from the mountain to
the beach since the beast was at the mountain
some of the other boys left with
jack later in the day
jack and the other raided Ralph’s part of the island to
get fire
simon’s sitting there, hallucinating that the dead
pig’s head is talking to him (the lord of the flies)
the boys are becoming increasingly
violent and bloodthirsty
