phelps’ place is
melancholy and depressing
huck didn’t really have any
plans
huck is surrounded by hounds who
bark at him
a slave comes out and sends them away, but some come back,
wagging their tails at Huck
a young male and female slave are hiding behind their mom, and the whie woman comes out of the house with her children also
hiding behind her
the woman says “it’s you” and then
hugs Huck and begins crying
she thinks huck is some kid named
tom
she is tom’s
aunt sally
huck says that he arrived late because the cylinder
head on the boat blew
aunt sally asks if anyone was hurt and huck says
no, but it killed a slave
uncle silas witnessed someone who was crippled by a
cylinder head blowing
aunt sally said his uncle silas was out to town looking for hima nd asks if
huck saw him
huck says that he didn’t see anyone and that he left his bags on the
wharf-boat
aunt sally now thinks that huck’s bags are going to be stolen, but huck assures her that
they won’t
huck just wants to talk to the children to find out
info but sally keeps talking
aunt sally ten asks huck, as tom, to tell her about
every one of his family members
when huck is about to respond, aunt sally grabs him and places him behind the bed and tells him to lower his head so that they can
play a joke on her husband
silas thinks that something happened to the
boat that tom is on
huck finds out that he is playing the part of
tom sawyer
at first, huck is comfortable and happy that he’s supposed to be tom sawyer, but then he thinks about what might happen if tom actually shows up and shouts huck’s name before
huck could tell him to be quiet
huck then decides on going to find tom and he tells sally and silas that he is going to
retrieve his bags
