Q

What gametes will meiotic recombination within the inversion region vs without the inversion region give rise to when dealing with Paracentric and Pericentric inversions in the germ line?

A

Recombination without the inversion region will give rise to half normal and half inversion carrying gametes in both Para and Peri. Recomb within the inversion region for Para will give rise to 1/4 normal, 1/4 inversion carrier, 1/4 dicentromeric dup/del, and 1/4 acentromeric dup/del. Recomb within the inversion region for Peri will give rise to 1/4 normal, 1/4 inversion carriers, 1/4 dup/del of one set of genes, and 1/4 dup/del of the other set of genes.

Q

What is the proportion of normal gametes and abnormal gametes for an individual who has a reciprocal or Robertsonian translocation?

A

1/3 of the gametes will be normal or balanced translocation carriers, while 2/3 of the gametes will be unbalance/inviable.
