Q

What will cause hematocrit and increase the white blood cell count?

A

Increased epinephrine levels as a result of excitation caused by blood withdrawal process itself will cause the hematocrit and white blood cell count to be increased.

16
Q

Name some anti-coagulating methods

A

Sodium Citrate

EDTA (Ethylene diamino tetraaccetic acid)

17
Q

What is heparin, and what does it do?

A

Heparin

Prevents the blood from coagulating by catalyzing the thrombin - antithrombin reaction.

18
Q

What are the three interrelated and overlapping steps of hemostasis?

A
  1. Vascular reaction
  2. Thrombocyte reaction
  3. Thrombolysis reaction
19
Q

Coagulation is caused by two different ways?

A
  1. Extrinct way - External tissue injury

2. Instrinct way - Injury of the intima of the vessels

20
Q

What are the coagulation cascade?

A

The cascade causes a fibrin net, formed by the fibrinogen of the plasma

21
Q

What does the clotting time tell us?

A

Blood clotting time informs us about the presence and the activity of the thrombocytes and the coagulating factors

22
Q

What is Lee-White method

A

A method to determine the bloodletting time.

The appearance of the first fibrin thread.
