L3 - Principles of Bacterial Pathogenesis Flashcards
quorum sensing
sensory mechanism in which bacteria constitutively secrete a small amount of autoinducer, the concentration of which can be “sensed” in order to measure population density
tropism
the predilection of a pathogen to target particular organs, tissues, or cells; often dependent on bacterial requirements (pH, nutrition, temperature, oxygen, etc)
types of bacterial toxins
