Inactivated split virus vaccines for the prevention of predicted southern hemisphere influenza virus types A and B - varies seasonally

A
- For prevention of seasonal or targeted influenza
- Administration as directed by NT Health Communicable Diseases

Contraindications of Influenza Vaccination?
- A FIG

- Known allergy to influenza vaccine or its components
- Known allergy to eggs or egg products
- Current febrile illness with temperature >38.5°C
- History of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (immune system attack PNS).

Cautions of Influenza Vaccination?
A
- Latex allergy or sensitivity.

Side Effects of Influenza Vaccination?
- HM MAD
A
- Discomfort, redness or swelling at injection site
- Headache
- Malaise
- Mild fever
- Allergic reaction.

A
- Single dose IM, as per manufactures direction

Onset and duration of Influenza Vaccination?
A
- Onset = Variable
- Duration = up to 100 days

Notes for Influenza Vaccination
A
- Vaccine should be stored in cool pack as per manufactures direction
- Adrenaline must be available when administering
- Must be observed for 15 mins post vaccine, by paramedic
