Pharmacology and presentation of Aspirin?
A
300mg tablets.
An anti-platelet aggregator with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects. Inhibits cyclooxygenase reducing the formation of prostaglandins and thromboxane.

Indicators of Aspirin?
A
- Acute Coronary Syndrome including ACPO.

Contraindications of Aspirin?
- 3x blood, 2x drugs, 1x person
A
- Known allergy or hypersensitivity to NSAIDs
- Chest pain associated with psychostimulant overdose with SBP>160mmHg
- Bleeding or clotting disorders
- Suspected aortic aneurysm
- Active and current gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers
- Patient <18 years of age.

Cautions of Aspirin?

- History of peptic ulcers
- Asthma
- Patients on other anticoagulant medications
- Pregnancy.

Side Effects of Aspirin?
- Begin HG
A
- Epigastric discomfort or pain
- Gastritis
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Bronchospasm (rare)
- Increased bleeding times
- Hypersensitivity reaction.

Dosing Regimes of Aspirin?
A
ACS
- 300mg PO once, not required if evidence of 300mg+ aspirin dose in the last 12hrs

Onset and duration of Aspirin?
A
- Onset = ~10 minutes
- Duration = ~7 days
