Pharmacology and presentation of Ibuprofen?
A
200mg Tablet
100mg/5ml liquid
Ibuprofen is a NSAID, predominantly used as an analgesic. Inhibits prostaglandin synthetase, reducing prostaglandin production and causing a reduction in inflammation, pain and fever.

Indicators of Ibuprofen?
A
- Mild to moderate pain secondary to inflammation or soft tissue injury.

Contraindications of Ibuprofen?
- A HARDPACK
A
- Known allergy
- Current gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer
- Dehydration and/or hypovolaemia
- Renal impairment
- Heart failure
- Pregnancy
- Pt taking anticoagulants
- Age <13 or >65 years
- Patients on ACE Inhibitors or Angiotensin II Receptor blocker drugs.

- LAG

- Asthma
- Liver dysfunction
- History of gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcers.

Side Effects of Ibuprofen?
- 2x head 2x stomach
A
- Nausea
- Dyspepsia
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Dizziness.

Dosing Regimes of Ibuprofen?
A
Analgesia
- 200-400mg PO, single dose only, do not administer if previously had it within last 6 hrs

Onset and duration of Ibuprofen?
A
- Onset = 15 minutes
- Duration = 4–6 hours
