Pharmacology and presentation of Ibuprofen?

A

200mg Tablet
100mg/5ml liquid

Ibuprofen is a NSAID, predominantly used as an analgesic. Inhibits prostaglandin synthetase, reducing prostaglandin production and causing a reduction in inflammation, pain and fever.

  • Mild to moderate pain secondary to inflammation or soft tissue injury.

Contraindications of Ibuprofen?

  • A HARDPACK
A
  • Known allergy
  • Current gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer
  • Dehydration and/or hypovolaemia
  • Renal impairment
  • Heart failure
  • Pregnancy
  • Pt taking anticoagulants
  • Age <13 or >65 years
  • Patients on ACE Inhibitors or Angiotensin II Receptor blocker drugs.
