What does SCID result in the individual not having?
An adaptive immune response
What is rheumatoid arthritis?
An autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints.
What does the immune system do in rheumatoid arthritis?
Starts attacking the body’s own cells, in particular the synovial membrane of joints becomes highly inflamed and filled with T cells
What is an allergic reaction also known as?
Type 1 hypersensitivity
What happens first in an allergic reaction?
The allergen is presented to dendritic cells which phagocytose them and put them not MHC-ll
What is the allergen confused with being?
An antigen
What does the allergen cause?
The stimulation of B cells to make IgE antibody which connects to the mast cells all over the body
What happens in secondary exposure to an allergen?
The mast cells degranulate causing histamine to be released which causes symptoms to be observed
