Where is cabinet installation started?

Why is it important to have a clean workspace when installing cabinets?
Small amounts of debris can cause cabinets to be installed out of level.
What should be checked before beginning the installation?
Check drawings for:
All Cabinets being delviered and that they are the correct size, type and finish.
What is the last step in installing the cabinets?
Install the drawer fronts & doors and drawer pulls.
What are shims used for?
Levelling & plumb the cabinets, align cabinet fronts and keep units from twisting when being screwed into the walls.
Describe drilling a large hole in a cabinet.
Start from the back and finish from the inside unit.
Describe how euro cabinet doors are adjusted.
Adjustments using modern euro hings are done by turning any of the 3 machine screws using a positive screwdriver.
If a wall is not flat and plumb or the ceiling is not level, what needs to be done?
Cabinets will have to be fitted to the irregular surfaces by scribing. Position and shim the cabinets in their final location and use a compass or pencil to scribe the shape of the wall.
When installing wall units, which unit should you install first?
Position the corner unit first.
What height do you install wall units at?
Normally 12” down from 8’ ceiling.
Common practice: Position the bottom of the wall unit 17 1/2 - 18 “ above the finished countertop height to maintain the desired height and speed up the installation.
Doors and drawer fronts are adjusted for:
Even gaps between them and the faces are on the same plane.
When an inset cabinet cannot be made square, how can you adjust the doors?
The doors may be planed to fit. if the inset cabinet cannot be installed square.
What can you apply to runners and the bottom drawer to ease the opening and closing?
Paraffin wax.
A wobbling drawer indicates that the slide was either installed:
Wobbling drawer - installed out of square or the drawer has a twist.
What is a manufactured cabinet?
Manufactured - built-in shops and to standard sizes.
What is a commercial cabinet?
Commercial Cabinet: Reception desks, storage shelves, display cases, customer service desks as well as kitchen cabinets in commercial cabinets.
A bookshelf in a commercial setting must be installed how?
Attached to the wall with manufacturer-specific hardware.
Reception desks should ha ve a desk height of:
29 1/2 inch to 30 inch.
Under-counter openings for other trades:
Pipes for plumbing will be stubbed out through the wall or floor.
How do you drill the holes for pipes in cabinets?
Slightly wider hole. for very large holes, use a saber saw.
What is a cleanout?
Cleanout - Plumbing fitting that has a removable plug. Used for unplugging clogged waste plumbing lines.
Heating ducts are often routed through where in the cabinet?
Heating duct often routed through the kick-space of the cabinet.
Electrical wires left installed cabinet must be installed how?
Electrical wires installed cabinets must be installed with: a protective conduit or armour coil.
How to install a post-formed countertop?
1) Long top that is mitered on both ends,
2) Trim/sand excess 1/4”
Once the preformed countertop is dry fit, what is the next step?
Place a large top on its backslash with the front edge facing up.
Place a small bead of silicone along the miter then use a countertop clamp.
What is the standard depth and height of a wall unit?
12” deep x 32” high
Standard depth and height of pantry unit?
12 - 48” wide and 84” high.
Standard width of a corner unit?
30 to 36” wide
