G3 - Describe Wall forms Flashcards
Explain how the forces of the fresh concrete reach the wall from the tie.
Pressure is transferred through the sheathing to the stud, to the water, and finally to the tie.
Describe “rate of placement”
Rate of Vertical feet of concrete placed per hour
Name one difference between self-climbing forms and gang forms:
Self-climbing forms do not require any crane
Give an example of a building core.
Elevator shaft.
What is concrete formwork?
Temp. the structure that is built to hold concrete in position until the concrete cures enough to support itself.
What are self-climbing and slipforms advantages?
ALlow the wall forms to be moved upwards without needing to strip them, effeciency.
How does self-climbing formwork operate?
Forms use lower tie holes or tie hardware from the previous concrete placement to anchor climbing shoes and support the forms and working decks. Once the placement of concrete gains sufficient strength, climbing shoes are transferred up another level, rinse and repeat.
Slip forming does not use ties to keep forms from spreading, but instead uses:
Very strong series of yokes to support the wall forms.
What is the core of a large structure or tall building?
The core is usually an elevator shaft or a stairwell that runs continuously from the foundation to the roof.
