What does a fire rating of 3/4 hour mean?
Length of time a building component can withstand temperatures generated by a building fire.
What’s the difference between a panel door and a flush door?
1) Doors that are flat on both sides are “flush”
2) Those that use stiles and rails are referred to as panel doors.
Hollow core doors are not completely hollow, what is inside of them?
A matrix of cardboard.
What is the advantage of a stile and rail door over a solid wood door?
Resistant to swelling caused by moisture content.
What if the door swings away from you and the hinges are on the right side?
Right hand swing door
How is a handing for a door determined?
By standing outside the direction of swing and noting which side the hinges are on.
A door that swings away from you and has the hinges on the left, would be a left hand-hung door.
Where are hollow core doors mostly used?
Low-traffic areas, where security and fire resistance are not needed.
What is a shaker stile door?
Thicker panels are tapered at their edges and are used for raised-panel look. Has indents to make it have a panel appearance.
What is a Molded Hardboard door?
Most often interior hollow core.
Moulded hardboard is used as a skin, which has an embossed wood grain pressed into it and is moulded to look like Stile and rail doors.
Doors that are required to have a specific fire-rating must have an Underwriters Laboratories of Canada sticker. Which states?
