Carrying channel - heavy gauge steel supported by hanger wires spaced at 48” Oc within 6” of ends
Furring channel - light gauge steel attached to carrying channels or wood joists.
What is used to support the gypsum board in a suspended ceiling when the spacing between the carrying channels is greater than 1200 mm (48”)

What kind of hanger wire is used?
10 g steel wire approx 3mm that has been pre-stressed.
Comes in 10’ lengths. Packaged straight and not rolled up.
Alllows it to hang straight after being tied.
Hanger wire length can be adjusted by:
Bending and twisting as in Figure 5 or using preformed with end hooks and a sliding adjustment bracket.
What is a wall mold?
L-shaped metal molding attached to the wall. Supports the edges of the ceiling tile.

What is the main Tee?
Known as main beam - Supporting member of the grid system.
Main Tee is supported with wire how often?

Main tee has slots where?
3” from the ends and then every 6” to allow placement of the cross tees. Main Tee come in 12’ lengths.
What are cross tees?
Cross tee span from main to main tee.
Either 2’ or 4’ in length.
Cross teee has 1.2m slot in mid point allowing 6 mm cross tee to be inserted.
Most tiles are designed to fit into a:
600 mm x 1200 mm ( 2 ‘ x 4 ‘ ) grid system. Tiles themselves are slightly smaller to allow them to be easily slipped into place.
What is a ventilation grill?
Designed to fit into a 600 x 600 mm grid space.

How to attach furring and steel studs to the carrying channel?
With tie wire. Attach gypsum board to the furring or stud with screws.
