What special precautions must be taken when installing a wooden frame without the door?
Both side jambs and the head jamb are straight and parallel.
What is the most important dimension to consider when installing an accordion door’s support header?
Height.
Where is the base pin positioned when installing a bi-fold door?
Adjustable base pines are put in the bottom outer corners of the doors.
Bi-Fold door finished opening for a 5068 door is:
60” wide and 80” high, the actual door is approx. 2” shorter than the 80” height of the FSO
How is a bypassing door installed?
Same manner as an accordion door. Position of header important. If too high, bottom guides will not work.
Accordion door install:
Door is heavy, so attachment to header is required. Header must be level or the door will drag on the floor..
Where are fire-rated doorframes (jambs) used?
In commercial construction, where a fire-rated opening is created.
Casing is normally installed:
1/8 to 1/4” reveal
Nailing casing in place specs:
Casing in place - space fasteners max of 20” OC when nailing into wall framing and 10” oc into the jamb.
Fasteners must be long enough to penetrate into the framing of the door by at least 1/2 inch to 1”
Basics for pre-hung door installation:
1)Level head jamb
2)Shim each hinge and midpoint
3) Shim at latch
Interior RO:
Swing Type: (Hinged) Door Rough Opening
Width: Door Width + 2”
Height: 82 1/2”
Pocket Frame RO:
Width: Door Width x 2 + 2”
Height: 84”
Bi Fold Door RO dimensions
Calculation is as follows:
Width: Nominal Door Size + 1 1/4”
Height: Nominal Door Size + 1 1/2
Outside of an interior door is defined as:
Closest to the exit of the building.
Gap between door and the jamb should be:
3/32 on the top and the sides. Thickness of a nickel.
