What is the endocrine system?

A

where the body is controlled by hormones. It contains glands that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream. the blood carries these hormones around the body where each hormone only acts on specific target organs to produce an effect

Comparison between Nervous sytem and Endocrine system

A

Nervous sytem:
- uses electrical impulses which travel down neurones
- acts fast but effect short lived

Endocrine system:
- uses hormones that are carried in the bloodstream
- much slower rate but effect is long lasting

it is known as master gland as is released a number of hormones into the bloodstream depending on the conditions. pituitary hormones act on other glands and cause other hormones to be released
