ecology - the water cycle Flashcards
1
Q
where is almost all water on earth found?
A
in the oceans. this is salt water
2
Q
how does water cycle work to get water to all ecosystems?
A
- energy from sun causes water in oceans to evaporate from surface of sea
- water vapour travels into air and cools. it condenses to form clouds
- water in clouds then falls to the ground as precipitation (includes rain, snow, hail and sleet)
- when water hits ground, some evaporates back into atmosphere as water vapour where as some water passes through rocks and forms aquifers + a lot of the water forms streams or rivers
- water in rivers + streams eventually drains back into the sea
3
Q
what do all forms of precipitation contain?
A
fresh water. doesn’t contain salt
4
Q
what part do living organisms plant in role of water cycle?
A
plants take up water in their roots. water moves up the plant in the xylem + passes out of the leaves through the stomata as water vapour - transpiration
animals take in water through drinking and food. then release it through urine, in their faces and when they exhale.
