ecology - global warming Flashcards
1
Q
what is happening to earth’s temperature?
A
it has been increasing but it has changed many times in the past (natural changes) however current increase is believed to be from human activities
2
Q
what is peer-review?
A
other scientist check others work before being published. checks for false claims
3
Q
what are the reports in popular media not subject to?
A
peer review so reporting on global warming can be oversimplified, inaccurate or biased
4
Q
how will global warming affect animals and plants?
A
- loss of habitats. ice leavers reduce causing population of arctic organisms to reduce
- animals and insects may extend their range northwards towards cooler conditions. example: mosquitos cant survive in cold conditions in UK however possible with global warming that range of these may spread to the UK which means diseases such as malaria will be brought with them
- species migrate/migration patterns will change
- affect plants, may flower earlier. grow grapes in part of UK that we can’t today if temp increases
- some parts of world, will be too hot to grow crops they need
