Homeostasis - negative feedback Flashcards
where is adrenaline released into?
the blood
what are the main effects of adrenaline?
increase the heart rate
what happens when heart is beating faster?
more oxygen and glucose are delivered in the blood to the brain and muscles. both of these are needed for aerobic respiration. this prepares body to fight or run away (flight or fight)
where is adrenal gland?
located at the top of kidneys
where is thyroid gland found? what does it release?
base of the neck which releases the hormone thyroxine
effects of thyroxine?
- stimulates bodies basal metabolic rate. makes the body’s chemical reactions take place at a faster rate
- plays an important role in growth and development
what is the level of thyroxine in blood controlled by?
the brain; negative feedback
what is a negative feedback cycle?
If something happens like thyroxine levels rise, then body will do opposite to bring them down.
