Chronic liver disease

What might seeing tattoos on inspection make you suspicious of?
Hep C
Why should you ask the patient to lift their head off the bed and cough in a GI exam?
You could spot a hernia
If they aren’t able to it might be because of severe pain from peritonitis
What might you look for on inspection of the bedside in a GI exam?
Feeding tubes Nil by mouth sign TPN Surgical drains Catheter
What clinical signs may you see when inspecting the nails in a GI exam and why are they relevant?
Koilonychia- spoon shaped nails suggest iron deficiency
Leukonychia- whitening of the nail bed due to hypoalbumnia due to chronic liver disease or anything where there is chronic loss of liver disease
