Gait Flashcards
Stride length
1 gait cycle
step length
1 limb until step with next limb
ROM at hip needed for normal gait
stance phase: 0-30flexion, 0-10-20 hyperextension
swing phase: 20-30flexion
ROM at knee needed for normal gait
stance phase: 0-40deg flexion
swing phase: 0-60deg flexion
rom at ankle needed for normal gait
stance phase: 0-10deg DF, 0-20deg PF
swing phase: 0-10deg PF
pretibial mm in gait cycle
prior to and during heel strike: eccentric contraction - lowers foot to ground
prior to and during swing:
concentric contraction - DF, clear toes off ground
calf mm in gait cycle
mid stance: eccentric contraction - control of tibia over foot
heel off: concentric contraction - ankle PF
Quad mm in gait cycle
heel strike: QF contracts eccentrically - control rapid knee flexion and to prevent buckling
pre-swing phase - eccentric contraction - slow down leg (tibia)
hamstring mm in gait cycle
before heel strike: eccentric - protects knee from hyperextension
swing phase: concentric - knee flexion, hip extension
hip abductors in gait cycle
stance phase: eccentric - stabilize pelvis
hip adductors in gait cycle
early and late stance: concentric contraction - stabilize pelvice
gluteus maximus in gait cycle
stance phase: eccentric contraction - decelerate forward momentum
pre-swing phase: concentric contraction - hip extension
erector spinae in gait phase
heel strike through toe off
maintain trunk posture
peroneus longus and brevis during gait cycle
stance phase: concentric - maintain medial and lateral stability of foot
foot intrinsics during gait cycle
stance phase: concentric - support plantar fascia
