FMC Test 2 *Weird things nerves do* Flashcards

Q
What are Impulsive Generations in Peripheral Nerves?
What can it lead to?
A
Abnormal Impulses can cause patients to report signs and symptoms not typical with musculoskeletal dysfunctions, this is common when a patient SELF immobilizes due to pain or fear of pain after injury.
- This can lead to Neurogenic Inflammation

Q
What is Neurogenic Inflammation?
What are the symptoms?
A
Injury to target tissue which leads to inflammatory chemical mediators
- The C-fibers (nociceptors) detect inflammatory mediators, then chemical mediators are transported to Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) via axoplasmic flow; this stimulates the production of neurokines
- Symptoms may include: Spontaneous pain for no reason as a result of ectopic foci from the peripheral nerve abnormal impulse generation
