Fentanyl Classification?
Opioid Analgesic
Fentanyl Mechanism?
Opiod receptor agonist. Multiple affinities but primarly by binding to MU in the CNS and PNS inhibiting ascending pain pathways. Also, increases pain threshold.
Fentanyl Indications?
-Pain Management
-Chest Pain/suspected ACS
-Premedication for RSI
-Post-intubation sedation
Fentanyl Contraindications?
-Respiratory depression or insufficiency
-Uncorrected hypotension (BP<100 Systolic)
Fentanyl Side Effects/Precautions?
-Bradycardia
-Respiratory depression
-Chest Wall Rigidity
-Kidey & Liver Dysfunction
Fentanyl Adult Dose?
1 mcg/kg IV/IO/IM/IN repeated every 5-10 minutes
Fentanyl Pediatric Dose?
1 mcg/kg IV/IO/IM/IN repeated every 5-10 minutes
Fentanyl Onset of Action?
Immediate
Fentanyl Duration of Action?
30-60 minutes
Fentanyl Max Dose Adult/Pediatric?
Max Single Dose 100mcg, 300mcg total
