Adenosine Mechanism?
Binds with phosphate to prevent the formation of ATP in myocardial cells to slow conduction and interrupt AV reentry pathways
Adenosine Indications?
-Hemodynamically stable supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) refractory to vagal maneuvers -Hemodynamically stable regular wide-complex tachycardia
Adenosine Contraindications?
-irregular rhythms
-WPW syndrome
-hemodynamic instability
Adenosine Side Effects/Precautions?
- Asystole
- Bradydysrhythmias
- Syncope
- Cardiac arrest
- Facial flushing
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Diaphoresis
Adenosine Adult Dose?
6 mg rapid IVP over 1-3 seconds followed by 20 ml NS flush If no response in 1-2 minutes, 12 mg rapid IVP over 1-3 seconds followed by 20 ml NS flush
Adenosine Pediatric Dose?
0.1 mg/kg (max 6mg) rapid IVP over 1-3 seconds followed by 5-10ml NS flush
If no response in 1-2 minutes, 0.2 mg/kg (max 12 mg) rapid IVP over 1-3 seconds followed by 5-10 ml NS flush
