Albuterol Mechanism?
Selectively binds to B-2 adrenergic receptors to cause smooth muscle relaxation in bronchioles, which in turn causes bronchodilation
Albuterol Indications?
- Asthma
- COPD
- RAD
- Allergic reaction/ Anaphylaxis
- Moderate/Severe Hyperkalemia
Albuterol Contraindications?
- Hypersensitivity
- Tachydysrhytmia
Albuterol Side Effects/Precautions?
- Headache
- Tachycardia
- Hypertension
- Palpitations
- Increased myocardial oxygen demand
- Nausea/vomiting
- Chest pain
- Cough
- Tremors
- Dry mouth
- Anxiety
Albuterol Adult Dose?
2.5 mg in 2.5 ml NS (total 3ml) via nebulizer with 6-8 lpm oxygen over 5 minutes
Albuterol Pediatric Dose?
2.5 mg in 2.5 ml NS (total 3ml) via nebulizer with 6-8 lpm oxygen over 5 minutes
Albuterol Onset of Action?
5 to 15 minutes
Albuterol Duration of Action?
3 to 4 hours
