Dry, Papulosquamous, Inflammatory Etc. Flashcards
Characteristics of lichen simplex chronicus
- feels good to itch
- localized plaque resulting from chronic eczematous inflammation/repetitive rubbing and itching
- sharply demarcated
What is this condition
Lichen Simplex Chronicus
(DDx: tinea, allergic rxn, psoriasis)
Lichen Simplex Chronicus Tx

- Abx for secondary infections
- Treat stress
Characteristics of keratosis pilaris
- mild follicular plugging
- asymptomatic or pruritic
- sandpaper texture
- small rough folliculocentric keratotic papules, can be erythematous
What is this condition
keratosis pilaris
(DDx often confused with acne)
Keratosis pilaris Tx
- emollients
- tretinoin
- lac-hydrin
- avoid abrasion
Characteristics of xerosis
- extremely dry skin
- flares, worse in cold, pruritic, can exacerbate eczema
- erythema, cracks, inflammed, Dried riverbed
What is this condition
Xerosis
Xerosis Tx
- mild cleansers

Characteristics of icthyosis vulgaris
- fish scales
- autosomal dominant
- excess accumulation of cutaneous scales
- often seen with atopic dermatitis
- extensor extremities

Pityriasis rosea characteristics
- self limited asymptomatic papulosquamous eruption usually on trunk to extremities
- not contagious
- mild prodrome
- herald patch = initial primary plaque
- christmas tree distrubution with collarette scale
What is this condition and what is the arrow pointing to
pityriasis rosea and a herald patch (DDx: tinea, syphilis, tinea versicolor, guttate psoriasis)
Pityriasis rosea Tx
- emollients
- low potency topical steroids

What is this condition
Lichen planus (DDx: psoriasis, eczema, lichen simplex chronicus)
characteristics of lichen planus
- The 5 Ps (pruritic, planar, polygonal, purple, papules)
- flexural surfaces
- intermittent pruritic inflammatory cutaneous and mucous membrane rxn
- Wickham striae appears as white reticular pattern in mouth
Lichen planus Tx

What is this condition
granuloma annulare (DDx: tinea corporis, nummular eczema)
Characteristics of granuloma annulare
- slow progressive annular plaque
- may be asymptomatic and present for years
- worse in summer
- firm, skin colored, erythematous, grouped arcuate or annular with central clearing/depression, smooth
- dorsal/extensor surfaces
Granuloma annulare treatment

- topical corticosteroids
What is this condition
Urticaria (DDx: drug eruption, viral exanthem, bites)
characteristics of urticaria
