Diag. spinal cord lesions Flashcards

Q

Diagnosing spinal cord lesions

Name types of tests to administer

and

clinical signs?

A

imaging:

(X-ray, CT, MRI)
- lumbar puncture (for testing CSF)

  • lesion of half of spinal cord-> ipsilateral hemiplegia; ipsilateral loss of proprioception, vibration
  • -> contralateral loss of pain and temperature
  • lesion of whole spinal cord -> bilateral loss of motor and sensory below the lesion

Q

=Diagnosing spinal cord lesion=

name 3 factors:

A
  • Loss of ipsilateral sensory* and *proprioception below the lesion if located within the spinal cord
  • Loss of contralateral sensory* and *proprioception if lesion is above brain stem

-Romberg sign (+) could infer the loss of proprioception
