What are the signs of Foot drop:
A
- a sign of underlying neurological, muscular or anatomical problem
- due to weakness/paralysis of tibialis anterior muscle

difficulty lifting front part of foot, foot dragging on floor when walking,
steppage gait (lift thigh high when walking to avoid foot dragging), foot numbness

Foot drop:
causes:
A
- peroneal nerve compression – the most common! ; may also be injured during hip/knee surgery
- “pinched nerve” (nerve root injury) ie. from herniated disc
- trauma to the muscle, spinal cord
- abnormal anatomy
- muscular dystrophy
- brain and spinal cord disorders ie. multiple sclerosis, ALS, stroke
- polio
- forms of muscular dystrophy, an inherited disease that causes progressive muscle weakness

Neurologic causes of foot drop:
- mononeuropathies of the deep peroneal nerve,
- the common peroneal nerve, or the sciatic nerve.
- Lumbosacral plexopathy,
- lumbar radiculopathy, motor neuron disease,
- parasagittal cortical
- subcortical cerebral lesions also can manifest as foot drop.

Risk factors:

- diabetes – more susceptible to neuropathies
- certain habitual activities ie. crossing legs, prolonged kneelin/squatting, leg cast
