Chapter 7 Breathing Conditions/Sounds Flashcards
Apnea
Absence of breathing
Bradypnea
Slow rate of breathing
Cheyne-Stokes Respiration

Hypoventilation
Shallow breathing at a normal rate. Can cause weakening of muscle, namely the diaphragm which can cause inability to breath.
Orthopnea
When the position of the patient affects breathing quality
Tachypnea
Fast breathing…greater than 20 breathes per min
Rales, Rhonchi, Stridor, Wheeze
ABN lung sounds. Auscultate 5 times- one for each lobe. Auscultate from dorsal side
Which abn lung sound doesn’t need to be auscultated when it gets bad?
