A
Used to calm autoimmune (allergy) reactions. Interrupts inflammatory pathway. Ex: Benadryl

Antitussive
A
Cough suppressant…. can be bad b/c mucus can build up in lungs

Bronchodilator
A
Dilates bronchi/airway. Works on the smooth muscle in the bronchi.

Decongestant
A
Shrinks swollen mucous membranes and blood vessels in UR Tract to relieve pressure and congestion. Ex: Sudafed or anything w/ “D” at the end

Expectorant
A
Thins and loosens mucus in the airway to make it easier to cough up or be processed by lymph system. Ex: Mucinex

Mucolytic
A
Same as expectorant. Mucus thinner.

A
Aerosolized corticosteroids
