1st Degree Burns (What it affects and sx’s)
Affects epidermis only. Sx’s: Erythema and hyperesthesia.
2nd Degree Burns (What it affects and the sx’s)
Affects epidermis and dermis. Sx’s: Erythema, hyperesthesia, anesthesia, and blisters.
3rd Degree Burn (What it affects and the sx’s)
Affects epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. Sx’s: Black/dead tissue, erythema, hyperesthesia, and anesthesia.
Biggest fears of burns?
Fluid loss (first priority) and infection (second)
What to administer to burn patients?
IV fluids and antibiotics
Debridement
Removal of black or dead tissue to promote healing
Skin Graft
Transplantation of skin from one person to another or from the same person. Autograft is when the donor of the skin graft is also the recipient.
