Chapter 3 Flashcards
25
Fires go wrong because we are complacent in preforming our duties and they go wrong because the fire did not behave in the routine manner we expected. What is the first step to eliminating complacency?
To revert back to our foundation: training
25
The fact that every community has residential structures not only demonstrates why we this is the most common fire we run, but also ______.
But also the type of fire we are the most complacent in our operations. We should train on what and how our company will operate at the residential fire, but also explain why we operate that way.
26
Once you have trained on the what, how , and why your company will operate at residential fire, what is the next step?
The next step is to get those operations down on paper. Develop operations manuals, these are not step by step guides rather blue prints to success, a guide to the immensely complicated battle site we refer to as the fireground.
26
The legacy of a firefighters dedication and commitment are best served by
what you share. (training, manuals)
26
How do we build our experience “mental slide tray” so that when we run that 3am house fire with people trapped we are not trying to recite bullet points of the operations manual?
By getting out into the community and preplanning before the fire occurs.
27
How can we pre-plan for residential fires, since most homeowners wouldn’t like the idea of a group of firefighters walking around their home.
We enter houses all the time due to the medical calls we make in the community. Seize the opportunity to learn about the structure and other like it in that area.
