Chief and company officers should develop and enforce policies designed to best shape their departments image. rules and regulations must be in place to address posting work-related comments, photos, or videos on social media.

We maintain a polished image by presenting a positive attitude in our interactions with the public.

The way your carry and present yourself to others contributes to your success both in the firehouse and with the public.

What is the cornerstone laid in a combat-ready attitude?
fire companies must be ready to go to work, not for just confirmed working fires, but on every single run out the door. Every response we make, until we determine otherwise could be the biggest fire of our career.

What are the two excuse heard most about complacent attitudes?
“We never go to fires” … how are you preparing for fires? Must have realistic training opportunities to be prepared
“We always go to fires”… the only consistent thing about firefighting is that it is different each time. Must stay vigilant.

Creating good habits and routines creates muscle memory.

Themselves, lack for readiness may get them killed or injured.

The spectrum of performance in firefighters will vary widely, as an officer what should your role be in achieving the highest performance out of a crew as possible?
While each individual FFer might not achieve the pinnacle of firefighting excellence we should always try to push the team curve in that direction. The finest fire company may have a few weaker links, but with training and sharing among all members the whole chain will be stronger in the end.

What do leaders often struggle finding the balance between?
Finding the balance between interpersonal relationships and the ability to pass along messages in battle and in the firehouse.

Attitude, it is the driving force behind your appearance and your desire to strive for the best.
