Ch 10: Muscular Flashcards
Muscle fibre
One skeletal muscle cell
Endomysium
Connective tissue that covers each muscle fibre
Fascicles
Bundles of muscle fibres
Perimysium
A sheath of tougher connective tissue that encases the fascicles
Epimycium
Another layer of connective tissue. it surrounds the muscle as a whole and binds all the muscle fibres together.
Connective tissue that surrounds the outside of the epimycium
Fascia
-deep fascia
-superficial fascia
Direct muscle attachment
Muscle fibres merge with the periosteum forming a strong attachment
Indirect muscle attachment
The epimysium extends past the muscle as a tendon, THEN merges with the periosteum
Neurotransmitter involved in muscle fibre contraction
Acetylcholine
Isometric
Tension increases, length stays the same
Isotonic
Tension remains the same, length decreases
Muscle origin
The end of the muscle that attaches to the more stationary bone
Muscle belly
Midsection of the muscle
Muscle insertion
The end of the muscle that attaches to the more moveable bone
Prime movers
The main muscle triggering the movement
