Cardiac Cycle Flashcards
Three instances when atrial pressure increases
1 . a wave - atrial contraction
- c wave - contraction of ventricle
- v wave - venous blood going to aorta
Phase of cardiac cycle that occurs during the distal third of diastole, preceded by p wave, presence of a wave.
Atrial contraction
Phase of cardiac cycle that is preceded by QRS complex, presence of c wave, equal ventricular volume since the ventricular pressure < aortic pressure.
Isovolumetric contraction
S1 can be heard here
Phase of cardiac cycle where atrial filling begins, ventricular pressure > aortic pressure, opening of semilunar valves, rapid decrease in ventricular volume
Rapid Ventricular Ejection
This phase of cardiac cycle is where T wave occurs
Reduced ventricular ejection
Aortic valve closes during this portion of the ECG
Twave
This phase of cardiac cycle is preceded by T-wave, presence of v wave, ventricular pressure > atrial pressure, associated with opening of mitral valve
Isovolumetric relaxation
This phase is where the AV valve open, and associated with the rapid increase of the ventricular volume
Rapid Ventricular Filling
This is the longest phase of the cardiac cycle associated with decreased ventricular volume
Reduced ventricular filling (diastasis)
