返嚟 - come back : the direction towards the speaker
返去 - go back : the direction away from the speaker
the verb “返” , literally meaning is “to return”, but it is used more restrictedly in Cantonese. It only applies to one’s own country or home, or some sort of “base”, such as a school is to its teachers and students, or an office to those working in it
“返” is usually followed by the destination or an “Aspect of Direction” to complete the sense. NEVER SAY “我返” something is missing.
