Biocultural Flashcards
This refers to an autonomous group or
organization of people occupying a distinct
geographic territory who interact with
others and share a common culture.
Society
TYPES OF
SOCIETIES
- Foraging
- Pastoral
- Horticultural
- Agricultural
- Industrial
- Post-Industrial
are the simplest form of
societies. They depend on hunting and/or
fishing for animals and gathering edible
plants for survival.
Foraging Soc
those that are engaged largely in
herding cows, goats and sheep mainly for subsistence and
for transportation; hence they are also called herders.
Pastoral Soc
With the domestication of animals also came tthe
domestication of plants in areas conducive to growing
edible crops, giving rise to
Horticultural Soc
also produce food crops like those of
horticultural societies but in a more efficient and intensive
manner using sophisticated knowledge and technology
resulting in surpluses.
Agricultural Soc
largely different from agricultural
societies in that they convert raw materials into finished
products using machines and in much larger quantities
than would be possible in agricultural societies.
Industrial Soc
the major economic activity is
centered in providing services and facilitating the
exchange of correct information with the use of advanced
communication technologies.
Post Industrial Soc

FOSSILS
- Ardipithecus Ramidus
- Australopithecus afarensis
- Australopithecus africanus
- Australopithecus boisei
- Australopithecus robustus
- Homo Habilis
- Homo erectus
- Homo sapiens neanderthalensis
- Homo sapiens sapiens
hypothesis that the
Earth's continents have moved
over geologic time relative to
each other, thus appearing to
have "drifted" across the ocean
bed.
Continental Drift Theory
The idea of continental drift has been
subsumed into the science of _______,
which studies the movement of the continents
as they ride on plates of the Earth's
lithosphere.
plate tectonics
EVIDENCE OF HUMAN EVOLUTION
- DNA
- Fossil Evidence
evidence from ________ points to the fact that we humans are
primates, and thus belong to the same Order
as that of the great apes.
DNA
point to the fact of
human evolution. Around twenty early
human species have been identified by
researchers and became extinct due to
environmental factors. The lone hominid
species that survived the drastic changes in
the environment is Homo sapiens sapiens,
our own species.
