Beta Agonists Flashcards
What are the effects of beta agonists?
increases HR and force - increases CO - increases work of heart - increases oxygen consumption - heart uses oxygen less efficiently
What is the action of adrenaline?
alpha 1 - redistribution of blood flow to the heart - vasoconstriction in the skin, gut and kidney, beta 1 - positive inotropic and chronotropic actions, beta 2 - dilation of coronary arteries
What drug is an alpha and beta agonist?
adrenaline
How is adrenaline administered in cardiac arrest?
IV
How is dobutamine administered?
IV infusion
What is the serious side effect of beta agonists?
can cause arrhythmias
How is adrenaline administered in anaphylactic shock?
IM
What is dobutamine used for?
acute heart failure - long term use increases mortality
What drug is selective for B adrenoceptors?
dobutamine
