Canine Infectious Tracheobronchitis (ITB, Kennel cough)

How is CAV-2 transmitted?
A
Aerosolized droplet
Stressful environments increases the severity of the disease

What are the clinical signs of uncomplicated ITB?
A
Harsh, dry coughing, followed by etching and gagging.
Honking sound
Rhinitis, serous nasal discharge, sometimes conjunctivitis

What are clinical signs of complicated ITB?
A
Severe pneumonia or bronchopneumonia

How is ITB diagnosed?
A
Gentle palpation on the larynx or trachea
PCR
Serology

How is ITB treated?
A
Antitussives (cough suppressants) used in conjunction with bronchodilators.
