What is the social learning approach?
You learn behaviours by observing role models and our environment and imitating their actions based on consequences they experience e.g vicarious reinforcement
What are role models in health education
. Role models are people we imitate especially when we identify with them based on similarities e.g age, gender or culture or we look the m up to like celebrities
They can influence both healthy and unhealthy behaviour
How do parental role models influence healthy/ unhealthy behaviours
Children imitate parents behaviours they can take up healthy habits such as exercise if the observe positive consequences on even unhealthy habits eg smoking if they see relaxation
How do peer role models influence healthy /unhealthy behaviours
When a peer starts a behaviour if those actions lead to social rewards they are more likely’to copy
Vicarious reinforcement
. Learning through observing the positive consequences of someone’s behaviour which motivates imitation
