What happened when Grant took on Lee at first?
He started a campaign against Lee without pause.
What happened at Petersburg?
Basically a standoff. Grant ordered his troop to put this place under siege, thus beginning the end for the South.
What happened in Atlanta and almost all of Georgia?
General Sherman ordered an evacuation of Atlanta and destruction of everything of military value. Troops set fire to the structures, but fire spread to over 1/3 of the city.
What was General Sherman’s March to the Sea?
This was Sherman burning a path of destruction ranging 60 miles from Atlanta to the sea. Savannah was the only city spared because Sherman thought it was too beautiful to be burned.
