- South never launched another Northern invasion
- It was the bloodiest, causing 23k union losses and 28k confederate losses.
What was the purpose of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address?
To dedicate the cemetery at Gettysburg in memory of all the fallen soldiers. He also used this to remind people that the war wasn’t a battle between regions, but a fight for freedom.
What happened at Chickamauga?
Confederates attacked the Union there and drove them back to Chattanooga, where they (the Confederates) were originally.
What happened at the battle of Chattanooga?
Confederates attempted a siege to cutoff northern supplies, but failed. The north ended up taking control of Tennessee.
What position did Ulysses S. Grant receive?
General in Chief. It allowed him full control over the Union forces and didn’t require him to report back to Lincoln for plans.
