ASIF
ASIF
Aggression cue hypothesis, SLT, Instinct theory, and Frustration aggression hypothesis
Aggression cue hypothesis
Suggests that aggression is caused by a learner trigger. Aggression only occurs if learned cues are present. Eg a corner kick could be a cue for aggression
Social Learning theory
Learning by associating with significant others (coaches and role models) and copying behaviour. Aggressive behaviour will be copied if its reinforced
Instinct theory
Aggression is spontaneous and innate. Aggression will occur after being provoked
Frustration-Aggression hypothesis
Aggression is inevitable when frustrating circumstances cause our goals to be blocked (refs decision or being fouled) causing a build up of frustration leading to aggression. This aggression needs to be released (catharsis) if not further frustration is felt
Preventing aggression
Don’t reinforce aggressive acts in training
Punishment players by fining or subbing them
Teach relaxation, stress management, calming players down
Set goals on performance not outcome
Reinforce assertion in training
