15.0 Flashcards
What is the difference between pneumonia and ARDS(acute respiratory distress syndrome)?
Pneumonia is primarily caused by bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. ARDS, on the other hand, is a severe lung injury that can be caused by various factors, including pneumonia, damage to neutrophil dependent lung barriers
Ground-glass opacity
Ground glass opacity refers to a hazy or cloudy appearance in the lungs when viewed on imaging tests like X-rays or CT scans. It indicates that there is a partial filling of the air spaces in the lungs with fluid, inflammation, or other substances.
ARDS treatment
Most patients with ARDS require endotracheal intubation and positive pressure ventilation, which can be provided through a ventilator. This helps to deliver oxygen to the lungs and remove carbon dioxide.
SARS-CoV-2 stands for
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2.
What is the structure of sars-cov-2?
single-stranded RNA virus packages inside nucleocapsid, inside nucleocapsids is
a lipid bilayer derived from
the modified host cell membrane and spike protein is a glycoprotein that protrudes from the viral envelope.
What is ACE2
ACE2 (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2) is a receptor found on the surface of certain cells, including lung cells, kidney cells, and gastrointestinal cells. It is the receptor that the SARS-CoV-2 virus (which causes COVID-19) uses to enter and infect these cells.
SARs Cov 2 can be inactivated by
lipid solvents
Soap is an excellent cleanser because of its ability to act as an
emulsifying agent
How does ACe-2 relate to renin-angiotensin system?
The major substance that ACE-2 works on is called Angiotensin II. ACE-2 breaks down Angiotensin II and produces a substance called Angiotensin 1-7. This process helps to regulate the Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS) in our body, which helps to control blood pressure. So, ACE-2 actually helps to lower blood pressure instead of raising it.
