Heart (Anterior View) Flashcards
Pericardium
Protects the heart
continuous with the diaphragm
Two components: Fibrous pericardium and visceral pericardium
Small amount of pericardial fluid btw layers
Fibrous Pericardium
Outer layer
Dense connective tissue
Visceral Pericardium
Inner layer
Loose connective tissue,
Pericarditis
Inflammation of the pericardium
Brachiocephalic Veins
Bring venous blood from upper extremities, head and neck
Merge to form the superior vena cava
Superior vena Cava
Bring venous blood from upper extremities, head and neck from the brachiocephalic veins
Inferior Vena Cava
Venous blood from the lower extremities, abdomen and chest
Right Atrium of the heart
Blood from Superior and Inferior Vena Cava dump into
Right Auricle
Ear like appendage of the right atrium
Right ventricle
Blood passes from right atrium to here
Contracts to propel blood
Pulmonary Trunk
Blood from ventricle is sent through branching to the right and left pulmonary arteries
Pulmonary Arteries
Carries deoxygenated blood from the pulmonary trunk into the lungs to be oxygenated
Pulmonary Veins
Oxygenated blood is sent from the lungs through into the left atrium
Left Artium
Oxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins are sent here
Left Ventricle
Blood from left atrium is sent to here, contracts and sends blood to the aorta
Ascending Aorta
Blood from left ventricle is sent up this
First branches off this are the right and left coronary arteries
Arch of the aorta
Curving to the left Three branches Brachiocephalic artery Left common carotid artery Left subclavian artery
Right and Left coronary Arteries
Supply the myocardium (cardiac Muscle)
Pass btw the atria and ventricles
Anterior Interventricular Artery
Left coronary artery produces the anterior interventricular artery found btw the right and left ventricles
Brachiocephalic artey
Sends blood to right upper extremity, right side of the head and neck
Left common Carotide Artery
Left side of the head and neck
Left subclavian artey
Passes under the clavicle to reach the left upper extremity
Trachea
Posterior to the aorta
Divides to form the right and left primary bronchi
Ligamentum Arteriosum
Connective tissue remnant of the embryonic ductus arteriosus
