1.2 Flashcards
True or False: Women and men have the same 4 stages of the sexual response
True. (excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution)
What is the sequence of events to orgasm in men?
- Respirations increase
- Heart rate and BP increase
- Penis engorges to full capacity with blood.
- Corona and penis head get real big.
- Cowper’s gland makes a small amt of precum that drips out
- Contractions of vas deferens, seminal vesicles and prostate
- This is when you have ejaculatory inevitability—even if you stop stimulation you’re still gonna burst.
- Urethra contracts
- Perineal and penile base muscles contract
- Ejaculation
- Resolution
- Cigarette.
After resolution, what happens in men?
there is a refractory period where there is no response to sexual stimulation. Typically gets longer as men get older.
What are the 2 functions of the fluid that enters the vaginal cavity in female arousal?
The fluid acts like a lubricant for the penis.
It also neutralizes normal vaginal acidity –> increases sperm survival
What is the sequence of physiological events that occurs pre-orgasm in women?
- Arousal
- On arousal and breasts and areola enlarge because of vasocongestion. Nipples erect.
- Clitoris enlarges and becomes more sensitive.
- The labia major may become thinner by muscle contraction if the woman is nulliparous (hasn’t had a kid yet). It may become a lot bigger if the woman is multiparous (vaginal clown car).
a. The labia minora in all women gets real big. - Inner portion of the vagina balloons to form a receptacle for semen. Uterus engorges and lifts upward.
- Right before orgasm the clitoris turns up 180 degrees and retracts behind the symphysis pubis
What is the sequence of physiological events that occurs during orgasm in women?
- Inner 1/3 of vagina continues to tent.
- Perineal, bulbocavernosus, and pubococcygeus muscles contract (sometimes a lot).
