Patient management: (6 things)

  1. Perform initial assessment and focus history exam
  2. Perform treatment interventions
  3. Advise law enforcement of destination ED
  4. If pt requires assistance to move, be mindful of evidence collection needs
  5. Be cognizant of emotional needs of patient
  6. Confirm law enforcement has contacted the PBC sexual assault response team and confirm a sexual assault nurse examiner will meet the patient at the receiving hospital

Transport: (7 things)

A
  1. If pt is in need of emergency medical attention, transport to closest, most appropriate ED per protocol
  2. If pt is stable, transport to Wellington regional medical center ED
  3. ED location is dependent on both the stability of the pt and if local resources and call volume allow.
  4. Contact EMS captain for guidance
  5. If pt does not require or refuses further assessment, treatment or transport to an ED, the proper refusal form shall be signed by the pt. If possible the form will be witnessed by law enforcement.
  6. Advise the pt that they may contact the rape crisis violent crime helpline at 561-833-7273 to speak to a counselor
  7. Personnel will only turn pt over to registered nurses or physicians at a licensed ED.
