10. Am I Addicted? Flashcards
How does Sara want you to define addiction?
You get to define what addiction means to you.
What does Sara think about how LDS people use the word addiction?
They use it too much.
What is Sara’s definition of addiction?
Habit is severe enough to keep you from living a normal, functioning life (no job, no school, no normal relationship).
How does thinking you’re addicted make you feel?
Hopeless and out of control.
What aspect of the 12 steps does Sara question for those who still live normal lives with the habit?
The “I am powerless to this” aspect.
What were my personal thoughts about the “I am powerless” aspect of 12 steps?
It’s accurate, but only in my current state. I can learn to overcome it. I am not powerless forever.
What’s the most important thing in how you define your habit?
Define it in whatever way helps you the most.
Who you think you are is who you…
Become.
What example does Sara use to question our use of the word habit?
“If you went to the gym once a month, would you call it a gym habit?”
