Guide
A localized cable programming distribution point that supports one or more geographic collections of subscribers.
Headend
Motorola specific. The body of the message is created by the CPMS (Copy Protection Management System) then its Unicast wrapped in DCII by the DAC-RADD-DSG CA Tunnel to the CableCard, which enables/disables Copy Protection per the status bits.
HVM (Host Validation Message)
HVM
Host Validation Message
Software has been tested by each JV, and integrated. It is of “deployable” quality
JVR (Joint Venture Release)
Refers to the majority of the set-top boxes that are deployed in customer homes today. Deployed with the existing guide.
Legacy STB
Complete release (H/W & S/W) is deployable pending successful testing in subscribers’ homes. The final hardware and software components of the release should be what were entered into final QA Readiness Testing
Market Trial
Computer software that connects software components or applications. Used most often to support complex, distributed applications. Includes we servers, application servers, content management systems, and similar tools that support application development and delivery. Especially integral to modern information technology based on XML, SOAP, Web services and service-oriented architecture.
Middleware
A navigation methodology that enables users to access services and/or assets from video-rich menu screens. Screens can include both traditional menu buttons and “___ buttons” comprising video windows which can contain prerecorded content or live broadcasts.
Mosaics or “VRN” (Video-Rich Navigation
Metadata Transport Interface. A server that has interest in data stored on MT1 Servers. It will request packets, via HTTP, from the servers
MT1 Client
Management and Configuration Interface
N
Synonymous with Legacy STB
Native STB
A software interface specification that completely defines the host software interface that executes portable, interactive applications and services. A separate effort from the Advanced Television Enhancement Forum (ATVEF) content specification, but does call for support and extension of ATVEF as a part of the PE requirements.

QIP
Asset Location Interface. It is responsible for messaging between the ODRM (On Demand Resource Manager, which is responsible for selecting the appropriate Streaming Server to support a Session Set-up) and the APM (Asset Propagation Manager, which is responsible for managing the placement of content on Streaming Servers).
